Writing Meme

snagged from musesfool

1. How about a brief introduction?
Okay, well, I've been reading fanfics for years but I only started writing it last March. I used to write 200 page stories that I imagined could be turned into Bollywood movies, imagining my favorite actors/actresses in the roles. A part of me in still sad that the computer that held all those stories has crashed because I would love to get the documents back to see how my style has changed.

I have to admit the first stories I read was when I was 13 and it was within the Sailor Moon fandom. Hey, that was a cute show! I was a shipper early and I delved into the Power Rangers fic because my young heart had been shattered when Kim & Tommy broke up and I wanted to see if anyone had fixed that.

2. What got you into fanfiction?
I was googling something and I discovered by accident. I was really amused and then I got intrigued. I was shocked at all the material I found and I have always been an avid reader so I got hooked. Plus, when I like things, I tend to get obsessed so there you have it.

What got me into writing it? Well, I was annoyed that there wasn't as much Clark/Oliver fic as I expected. So I decided to write some myself.

3. What kind of fanfiction do you write?
I write slash. Mostly slash. I've written a few het fics but the two WIPs haven't been touched in months. Romance/Drama is my genre of choice.

4. Do you write for the same pairings/characters?
Yes, definitely. I stick to the Smallville fandom, though I've read fanfics from other fandoms. I mainly write Clark Kent/Oliver Queen stories (as most of you should know by now) but I've written Chloe/Clark and Clark/Lois.

5. What is your most popular fic and why do you think people like it so?
My most popular fic is "Never Say Goodbye". Umm ... not really sure why people like it. That's not me being modest, it's me being confused. I suppose the redk factor makes it interesting and it's a different type of story where Clark & Oliver have a back story.

6. Forget other people; what is the fanfic/post/prompt you've written that you're most proud of?
Personally, I have a strange attachment to "Chemicals React". It was my first WIP that I finished and I just liked the way it turned out.

7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What aspects do you struggle with?
I don't think it's easy but some stories flow easier than others. Others, I struggle with but the actual writing I don't find so difficult. I like to write and when I get going, I think it just comes. The harder aspects are definitely transitioning into romantic scenes. I try to close them out with as little description as possible, just because I can't write them, and to close it out always gives me a headache.

8. Write a few sentences of your favorite pairing or character.
Well, I'm just going to steal what musesfool did and put in a few lines from one of my stories. This is from "Chemicals React".

“Yeah,” Oliver replied. “We’re taking a short break. I had to come back to Star City for some business.” He hesitated for a second. “Clark, how exactly did you get here?”

“I flew,” Clark told him. And . . . silence. Flustering Oliver was fun. He loved finding ways to silence the other man. If all went well, he would soon be silencing him in a very different manner.

“You flew,” Oliver repeated.

“Is there an echo in here?” Clark joked. “Yes, I flew. Are you really that surprised?”

“Can you blame me?” Oliver asked, raising an eyebrow. “I’ve seen you do some pretty amazing things and I’ve witnessed other powers by other people. But flying?”

“Must be an alien thing,” Clark said flippantly. Oliver froze. “Yup, that’s me. Alien.” He stood up and walked behind Oliver’s chair. His breath hot on Oliver ear, he whispered, “You knew I wasn’t normal. You just didn’t know how far from normal I actually was.”

9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches you hate?
Yup, there are.

10. Are you guilty of any of the trends you hate?
I don't think so.

11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still write for it?
My first fandom is Smallville and yes, I definitely still write for it.

12. Name your OTPs and explain what it is about them you love to write.
Clark/Oliver is complete OTP. I also like Clark/Lois, Chloe/Oliver, Lois/Oliver, Chloe/Clark and Clark/Bruce.

I like ships that have them as friends first. A nice established relationship is always fun and when they have on-screen chemistry, it makes the ship that much more fun. I'm shallow ... if they look pretty together, I tend to gravitate toward them.

13. What would you call your writing style?
I don't know ... conventional? I'm really not sure.

14. Do you read other people's writing? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
I definitely like reading other people's writing! I find myself liking romance fics but I tend to like all genres. If you write a pair I like, I'll probalby check it out.

15. Name one thing you'd love to write but have been too afraid or too shy to do.
I've been tempted to write a story where Clark turns into a girl. It's so cliche and it's been done too many times but I don't know why. The idea makes me giggle.

16. Do you feel uncomfortable taking criticism? Or worse, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?
No, not at all. I like criticism but as long as it is criticism and not nasty. I've gotten it before and it stings for a moment but it passes. I definitely do not have a bloated ego. I write for me and I'm always happy when people enjoy my stories.

17. When you write, is there anything that helps?
Music definitely is a big inspiration. I like to be in a particular mood when I'm writing. When I was writing "Sober", I needed to be in a particular mood or it wouldn't work.

18. What inspires you?
Like I said ... music. And a very encouraging beta who doesn't let me slack. ;)

19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and you as a writer?
I think I've had a good experience. I've met some lovely people, read some wonderful stories and produced what I think are decent fics.

Well, if you actually took the time to read this, cool! If you guys have time, you should do it too. I'd love to know your thought processes.
