day 7!
It's Day 7 of the 21 Day Smallville Meme! I'm 1/3 done! Yay! :D

Day 7 – A song you think describes Lana Lang on Smallville

I have a few songs that I associate with Lana but the main one is probably "Halo" by Bethany Joy Galeotti. The song lyrics really fit Lana, as it talks about a girl who is on a pedestal and wants to get off. Lyrics like "One thing is clear; I wear a halo, I wear a halo when you look at me; but standing from here, you wouldn't say so; you wouldn't say so if you were me" really describe her point of view. Lana really never wanted to be seen as some sort of angel and she always wanted the men in her life to see that, but they (especially Clark and later Lex) never got it.

It's why I think Lana worked better with women than men. The women didn't worship her. They saw her as a real human being. :)

That's a very good point. People like Chloe and Lois (and even Tess) tended to see her as an equal and weren't really fascinated by her. I tend to ship Lana more with the girls too, though I'm in the minority who actually liked Lex/Lana because of their potential. Not a fan of what they turned out to be though.

Lex/Lana certainly had their moments, but the whole thing seemed off to me. Maybe it was the stupid baby plot or the fact that it was so soon after Lex and Clark broke up ;) and Lex wanted Lana because Clark wanted her (so says the show's canon, *cough cough*). ;) I was kind of depressed over Lex going so dark, too.

I just found them more interesting than Clana, especially since Lex was one of the few people who was willing to call Lana out, and I felt like she was more herself with him. I found her gray side in s6 fascinating and it's a shame that the writers felt the need to justify her actions and make her the victim. The baby plot and Lex becoming kind of pathetic and accepting being second place because he didn't "deserve" her was stupid though.

I was kind of depressed over Lex going so dark, too.
Yeah, I wasn't really surprised by that. I can see how fans who are more invested in his character than I was would be depressed though.

True, Lex saw Lana more clearly than Clark ever did. Probably his cynicism coming through. ;)

Man, it was tough to stick to SV after all the darkness and eventual No More Lex episodes. :) I did stick, though, because I love Clark so dearly and was curious to see how SV would continue with his journey. There was a lot of good storytelling left! :)

Very true. He was way too jaded to ever think of anyone was being some perfect princess, unlike Clark, who was and always has been more innocent.

I mean, everyone knew how Lex would end up, but the path there was a bit disappointing. I don't like the fact that the Clark/Lex rivalry came down to Lana. Lame. But the show did improve after s7, but that's more with AlMiles leaving than MR. I am sure the dynamic would've been much more interesting in the hands of the new producers. Too bad he didn't stick around but considering how awful his character was in season 7, I don't blame Michael for leaving.

Clark's my favorite character but they pretty much assured me sticking around once they announced they were bringing in Oliver as a regular in s8. I needed that incentive after the fail that was season 7. :\

Exactly! We all knew what Lex would become, but frankly, I couldn't really buy it all that much since we saw so much goodness in the early seasons. That's why I firmly espouse the theory that Zod's possession triggered his latent meteor psychosis and that's why we got Evil!Lex. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)

There was a lot of goodness but I think that, with or without the possession, he would've turned evil eventually. His own character traits- the obsessiveness, the willing to risk everything and everyone to learn the truth was pretty telling for me, even in the early seasons. He was doing some shady stuff even before s5. Just my opinion.

Lex has always been multi-faceted. I'm just not sure if the portrayal we saw in early SV would translate to the very dark Lex we got later on. Sure, in comics, movie, and 'toonverses, yes, but this one is questionable for me.
svgurl: lex looking upsvgurl on May 24th, 2011 01:09 am (UTC)
With the exception of the fake pregnancy, I always felt Lex's actions were in character. Like, for instance, I knew that he'd be the one to kill Lionel for years, way before the Zod possession. Of course he'll never be a one dimensional villain but I couldn't picture him being one of the good guys in the long run either.

Can't blame him much for knocking off the old man! ;)
svgurl: tom welling amusedsvgurl on May 24th, 2011 02:45 am (UTC)
Obviously, but it does push him past the point of no return. :)
bradygirl_12: clex (kneel before zod!)bradygirl_12 on May 24th, 2011 02:52 am (UTC)
I know, just joking. ;)

I remember watching that scene and screaming, "Argh, Lex! You're on your way to True Evildom!" ;)
svgurl: lois b&w amusedsvgurl on May 24th, 2011 03:07 am (UTC)
LOL I figured. To his credit, he waited a lot longer than some of us might've. It's really a good thing I don't have Clark's powers ... I'm certainly not as restrained as him. A lot more people would've ended up injured. ;D

Hee! I would love to hear that sentence come of your mouth. I was torn between "ooh, I was right!" and "good riddance". XD

It was a watershed night, for sure! And I'll admit that having Clark's powers might be problematic for me, too! So many people I would love to serve justice on! ;)

I think that was one of the best episodes of an otherwise mediocre season.

And I'll admit that having Clark's powers might be problematic for me, too! So many people I would love to serve justice on! ;)
Hee! We'd be one dangerous duo. ;D

Actually I disagree with you that Lex never got it, I think he came closer to getting it than Clark ever did and that's saying A LOT. Honestly, I find that the best man that Lana worked well paired up with, was Lex because of the fact that he challenged her in ways that not even Whitney or Clark ever did. And he always believed in her, encouraged her to be confident in herself. They were more on level field, than her and Clark.

But, I do agree with the song choice, and the reasons why you chose it. It is a great song for Lana and one I think describes her amazingly well. I also think another good one is Out Of My Mind by the SHeDaisy. If you think about it, some of the lyrics are perfect.

Like these...

I'm afraid of fallin' upward
I'm afraid of my own age
I'm a paragon with an apron on
And I'm beautiful on an empty page

In a lot of ways, I think she was seriously scared of the fact that she did actually love Lex and that she could love the man that he was. Then again, that could just be the shipper in me, but still I disagree because I think that Lex got her plenty better than any of the other men that she's been with on that show, aside from Jason and I'm not sure he got her quite as much.
svgurl: lex/lanasvgurl on May 24th, 2011 02:51 am (UTC)
I'm sorry, I should've been more specific. I do agree and believe that Lex came a lot closer to getting Lana than Clark ever did. I like the fact that he was willing to call her out, even in season 1 and made her question what Whitney did. I also think that she was able to be herself around him, but he fell into the "Lana is perfect" trap, just like every one else on the show in season 6. That's why I put the "later" in front of Lex, but like I said, I should've been more clear. While he was more himself in parts of s7 with her, like "Wrath", he did the whole "I don't deserve you" bit in s6, with his accepting of potential second place in "Hydro". That kind of thing was really disgusting to watch, at least for me.

I thought of Lana when I heard it and I used it for my Clana fanmix actually so yes, I do think of this song more directed to Clark than Lex. I haven't heard "Out of My Mind" but those lyrics really do work.

In a lot of ways, I think she was seriously scared of the fact that she did actually love Lex and that she could love the man that he was.
True. She feared what she was willing to do while she was with him. I find it interesting than Kristin Kreuk actually said she didn't believe Lana loved Lex, because I think it's the opposite.

Jason and her had an interesting relationship. I don't know if he "got" her but I liked them in s4- they were fun and sexy before he went crazy. JA & KK had good chemistry.
bradygirl_12: fairy (fireworks--reflected water)bradygirl_12 on May 24th, 2011 02:55 am (UTC)
I definitely liked Lana and Jason. They could have had something good together before Jason lost it. :)
svgurl: lanasvgurl on May 24th, 2011 03:09 am (UTC)
Agreed! Shame they had to drudge up Clana again. I kinda wish Lana had just stayed in Paris with Jason. No offense to KK, but her character just got progressively worse. :\

I agree 100% with this!
svgurl: clark s8svgurl on May 25th, 2011 02:22 am (UTC)
Good to know! The show would've just been better if Clana had ended after s3, when Clark said he wasn't the guy for her. Oh well, it all worked out in the end and that's all that matters. :)
